Towards Processable Afrikaans
In this paper we discuss a number of structural problems that we face when we design a machine-oriented controlled natural language for Afrikaans taking the underlying principles of Attempto Controlled English (ACE) and Processable English (PENG) as a starting point.
متن کاملUniversal Dependencies for Afrikaans
The Universal Dependencies (UD) project aims to develop a consistent annotation framework for treebanks across many languages. In this paper we present the UD scheme for Afrikaans and we describe the conversion of the AfriBooms treebank to this new format. We will compare the conversion to UD to the conversion of related syntactic structures in typologically similar languages.
متن کاملProsody Toolkit: Integrating HTK, Praat and WEKA
A major hurdle in computational speech analysis is the effective integration of available tools originally developed for purposes unrelated to each other. We present a Python-based tool to enable an efficient and organized processing workflow incorporating automatic speech recognition using HTK, phonemelevel prosodic feature extraction in Praat and machine learning in WEKA. Our system is extens...

Many linguists use recorded speech in their research. In descriptive work, visual representations of such recordings (mostly oscillograms) are often annotated with IPA symbols and other labels, and then used to illustrate a phenomenon or defend a certain position regarding the nature of some phonetic or phonological property of the language in question. In phonetic and psychophysical research s...
متن کاملPraat on the Web: An Upgrade of Praat for Semi-Automatic Speech Annotation
This paper presents an implementation of the widely used speech analysis tool Praat as a web application with an extended functionality for feature annotation. In particular, Praat on the Web addresses some of the central limitations of the original Praat tool and provides (i) enhanced visualization of annotations in a dedicated window for feature annotation at interval and point segments, (ii)...
